# Tire load index chart

## What is the tire load index?

The load index is a code on the tire sidewall that maps to the maximum load each tire can carry. For example, 91 means 615 kg. The full chart from 60 to 130 is below in kg and lb.

## Try a load index

Type the number printed before the speed letter, such as 91V or 94W.

Load index

### kg per tire

615

### lb per tire

1,356

Reference-table value only. Always match your vehicle placard and tire sidewall markings.

<!--astro:end-->

## Compare load and speed markings

Compare a current and candidate single service description, such as 91V and 94W.

Current marking Candidate marking

The candidate table values meet or exceed both current values.

| | Current marking | Candidate marking |
| --- | --- | --- |
| Maximum table load | 91V : 615 kg | 94W : 670 kg |
| Speed symbol limit | 240 km/h | 270 km/h |

Reference-table screen only. Match the vehicle placard and manufacturer requirements; higher table values alone do not approve a tire.

<!--astro:end-->

## Axle load to table index

Enter the maximum laden axle weight stated by the vehicle manufacturer. The calculation splits that static load across two single-mounted tires and finds the first published index with enough table capacity.

Manufacturer-stated axle load Load unit
kg lb

Calculation assumption: 2 single-mounted tires on this axle.

### Table screening result

### Static load per tire

600 kg

### First covering table index

90

### Table capacity per tire

600 kg

### Combined table capacity

1,200 kg

No rounding is applied before the table lookup.

Arithmetic reference only, not a fitment or pressure recommendation. Never use an index below the vehicle placard or OE requirement. This lookup does not assess pressure, XL/SL construction, dynamic loading, speed-related derating, dual fitment, tire condition or local rules.

The UN tables support the per-tire capacities, while the GOV.UK inspection manual documents checking the manufacturer-stated maximum laden axle weight against tire load capacity. The calculator applies that arithmetic only; the placard and manufacturer requirements remain authoritative.

Seasonal check

## Planning a long summer drive?

Use the budget and running-cost tools before a trip, especially if the current tires are worn or the replacement size changes diameter.

What changed

- Added a localized current-versus-candidate service-description comparison using the published load-index and speed-symbol tables.
- Verified the published load-index range against the annex tables in UN Regulations No. 30 and No. 54 and added visible provenance.
