Is my staggered tire setup within tolerance?
A staggered setup runs wider tires on one axle (usually the rear). The front-to-rear width difference is the stagger; the overall diameters should still match within the selected tolerance — a large diameter mismatch can stress AWD/4WD drivetrains. Different front and rear sizes also mean front-to-rear rotation is not possible.

The front-to-rear width difference is the stagger; the overall diameters should still match within the selected tolerance — a large diameter mismatch can stress AWD/4WD drivetrains. Different front and rear sizes also mean front-to-rear rotation is not possible.
- Check the vehicle placard and owner’s manual first.
- Match or exceed the required load index and speed rating.
- Confirm rim-width range, bolt pattern, hub bore, offset and fasteners.
- Inspect wheel-arch, suspension and brake clearance under real vehicle load.
- Check TPMS, cold pressure and local roadworthiness rules.
